Method for detecting voltage imbalance in 18650 lithium batteries.

1. Voltage measurement method
Measure the voltage of each 18650 battery in the battery pack separately using professional voltage measurement tools such as high-precision multimeters or battery testers. Before measurement, it is necessary to ensure that the battery is in a stationary state, that is, not undergoing charging or discharging operations, in order to obtain accurate voltage values. Then, by comparing the voltage values of each battery, if it is found that the voltage of one or several batteries deviates significantly from the voltage range of other batteries, it can be preliminarily judged that there is a voltage imbalance problem. For example, in a battery pack composed of multiple 18650 lithium batteries, most of the batteries have a voltage between 3.8V-3.9V, while a few batteries have a voltage lower than 3.6V or higher than 4.1V, indicating that the battery pack has a voltage imbalance situation.

2. Internal resistance measurement method
Use an internal resistance measuring instrument to measure the internal resistance of each 18650 battery. Internal resistance is one of the important factors affecting battery voltage. Batteries with higher internal resistance will experience faster voltage changes during charging and discharging, making them more prone to voltage imbalance. By measuring internal resistance, the voltage status and health condition of the battery can be indirectly understood. If the internal resistance of a battery is significantly higher than that of other batteries, then this battery may have a problem and further inspection is needed to determine if its voltage is abnormal.

3. Capacity testing method
Conduct a complete charge and discharge cycle test on the battery pack, recording the voltage changes of each battery throughout the entire process and the final discharge capacity. During the charging process, observe the voltage rise rate of each battery and the time it takes to reach a fully charged state; During the discharge process, pay attention to the speed of voltage drop and the amount of electricity that can be released. If a battery has a slow voltage rise during charging or a rapid voltage drop during discharging, and its discharge capacity is significantly lower than other batteries, then there may be a problem of voltage imbalance. Although this method is time-consuming, it can more accurately evaluate the overall performance and voltage balance of the battery pack.
